Why do we need more Fibre?

We constant are bombarded with advertising on TV and on our food packaging to “EAT MORE FIBRE.” We know we should be eating more, but do you know why?

Fiber in our diets helps to move our food through our digestive tract. It provides bulk and can hold extra water. This helps to move waste through the bowels.

The longer waste food sits in our digestive tracts, the more time it has to sit and ferment. When food ferments in our stomachs, gas is produced and can lead to bloating and indigestion (This is commonly confused as too much stomach acid and antacids are taken which in turn cause further problems).

While increasing fiber in the diet, you must also increase water intake to assist in “smooth” transitions and avoiding constipation.

Great sources of fiber include:

Berries Wheat bran

Beans Nuts

Flaxseeds Seeds

Plums Vegetables

Apples Wholemeal breads

Oats Bran

By increasing fiber in your diet and improving gut health, you may help to prevent conditions such as Ulcers, Diabetes, Heart Disease and even cancer.

If you have problems with constipation, cramps in the gut, gas, reflux or indigestion, or if you think you may not be getting enough fiber, speak to one of our naturopaths who can discuss changes that can help you feel better and give you a healthier colon.

Iridology

WHAT’S NEW?

IRIDOLOGY

Your eyes….a map of your soul

WHAT IS IRIDOLOGY?

Iridology is the scientific analysis of patterns and structures in the iris of the eye which locates areas and stages of inflammation throughout the body.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The complex iris is composed of hundreds of thousands of nerve endings which are connected by impulses to every tissue of the body through the brain and nervous system. The nerve fibres, respond specifically to tissue and organ conditions with a corresponding physiological reflex manifested in the iris as lesions and colour variations. The iris chart, which is the result of many years of clinical observation and intensive research by Dr. Bernard Jensen and others, represents the basic placement of body organs and tissues similar to a map. An accurate iris analysis is possible by superimposing the chart over an iris image projection, allowing detailed observation of the valuable and reliable data recorded there.

HOW CAN IT HELP ME?

Iridology is an integral part of preventive health care. It has the ability to forewarn of approaching difficulties or signs of “dis-ease”. In effect, iridology will reveal how well your body functions. Nutrition and iridology are inseparable in one’s pursuit of a healthy way of life Iridology helps us understand our weakness so we may strengthen and cleanse our bodies to obtain our maximum health potential. It brings to us an awareness of how to prevent illness, thus allowing us to earn our most precious earthly treasure–vibrant physical, mental and spiritual health!

For those who believe in vaccinating, here is some new technology on the horizon

By Michelle Clark

Bill and Melinda Gates have set up a foundation to improve the health of men, women and children all over the world. Some of their past ventures have seemed honorable and helpful to many people throughout the world.

In May of this year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation released an article on their funding towards Sweat-triggered vaccine delivery. This new technology is using “nano particles that penetrate the skin through hair follicles and burst upon contact with human sweat to release the vaccine.”1

This technology is being developed by Carlos Alberto Guzman of the Helmholtz Centre in Germany. The research is being promoted to help the underdeveloped countries combat widespread sickness.

By using this nano particle technology, vaccines can be administered in almost any way. A fine mist through the airport security checkpoint or as a key ingredient in sun cream. It would be very easy to mass medicate, not just the underdeveloped countries, but all over the world, possibly even without our knowledge. It is not such a far fetched idea considering we are already being mass medicated from our water supply.2

Other projects the foundation is currently funding include Insecticide-treated traditional scarves (scarves worn by migrant workers on the Thai-Cambodia border would be treated with insecticides), Ultrasound to temporarily sterilize men and a “seek and destroy” laser vaccine.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D…. the BIG issue

The beneficial ray of sunshine

The ultraviolet wavelength that stimulates our bodies to produce vitamin D is UV-B. It is sometimes called the “burning ray” because it is the primary cause of sunburn (erythema). However, UV-B initiates beneficial responses, stimulating the production of vitamin D that the body uses in many important processes. Although UV-B causes sunburn, it also causes special skin cells called melanocytes to produce melanin, which is protective. UV-B also stimulates the production of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH), an important hormone in weight loss and energy production

Difficult to get

The reason it is difficult to get adequate vitamin D from sunlight is that while UV-A is present throughout the day, the amount of UV-B present has to do with the angle of the sun’s rays. Thus, UV-B is present only during midday hours at higher latitudes, and only with significant intensity in temperate or tropical latitudes. Only 5 percent of the UV-B light range goes through glass and it does not penetrate clouds, smog or fog.

It’s all in the timing

Sun exposure at higher latitudes before 10 am or after 2 pm will cause burning from UV-A before it will supply adequate vitamin D from UV-B. This finding may surprise you, as it did the researchers. It means that sunning must occur between the hours we have been told to avoid. Sunning between 10 am and 2 pm during summer months (or winter months in southern latitudes) for 20-120 minutes, depending on skin type and colour, will form adequate vitamin D before burning occurs.

Don’t shower

It takes about 24 hours for UV-B-stimulated vitamin D to show up as maximum levels of vitamin D in the blood. Cholesterol-containing body oils are critical to this absorption process. Because the body needs 30-60 minutes to absorb these vitamin-D-containing oils, it is best to delay showering or bathing for one hour after exposure. The skin oils in which vitamin D is produced can also be removed by chlorine in swimming pools.

How long do we need in the sun?

The current suggested exposure of hands, face and arms for 10-20 minutes, three times a week, provides only 200-400 IU of vitamin D each time or an average of 100-200 IU per day during the summer months. In order to achieve optimal levels of vitamin D, 85 percent of body surface needs exposure to prime midday sun. (About 100-200 IU of vitamin D is produced for each 5 percent of body surface exposed, we want 4,000 iu.) Light skinned people need 10-20 minutes of exposure while dark skinned people need 90-120 minutes.

Sunlamps

If sunlight is not available in your area because of latitude or season, sunlamps made by Sperti can be used to provide a natural balance of UV-B and UV-A. Used according to instructions, these lamps provide a safe equivalent of sunlight and will not cause burning or even heavy tanning. Tanning beds, on the other hand, are not acceptable as a means of getting your daily dose of vitamin D because they provide high levels of UV-A and very little UV-B.

Vitamin D from food

Vitamin-D-rich foods include the intestines, organ meats, skin and fat from certain land animals, as well as shellfish, oily fish and insects. Many of these foods are unacceptable to the modern palate.

Vitamin D from Fish

Fish, unlike mammals, birds and reptiles, do not respond to sunlight and rely on vitamin D found in phytoplankton and other fish. Salmon must feed on phytoplankton and fish in order to obtain and store significant vitamin D in their fat, flesh, skin, and organs. Thus, modern farm-raised salmon, unless artificially supplemented, may be a poor source of this essential nutrient.

Naturally reared poultry and the yolk of their eggs are considered to be a good source, as does fatty fish such as kippers, and herring.

Vitamin D and Calcium

Vitamin D controls the levels of calcium in the blood. If there is not enough calcium in the diet, then it will be drawn from the bone. High levels of vitamin D (from the diet or from sunlight) will actually demineralise bone if sufficient calcium is not present.

It is also well recognized that vitamin D aids in the absorption of magnesium, iron and zinc, as well as calcium.

Toxic absorption

Vitamin D will also enhance the uptake of toxic metals like lead, cadmium, aluminium and strontium if calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are not present in adequate amounts.

Vitamin D supplementation should never be suggested unless calcium intake is sufficient or supplemented at the same time.

We know from research

Vitamin D deficiency decreases biosynthesis and release of insulin.21 Glucose intolerance has been inversely associated with the concentration of vitamin D in the blood. Thus, vitamin D may protect against both Type I and Type II diabetes.

The risk of senile cataract is reduced in persons with optimal levels of D and carotenoids.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) has been corrected by supplementation of D and calcium.

Vitamin D plays a role in regulation of both the “infectious” immune system and the “inflammatory” immune system.

Low vitamin D is associated with several autoimmune diseases including, Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroiditis and Crohn’s disease.

Osteoporosis is strongly associated with low vitamin D.

Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis respond favourably (and rapidly) to higher levels of D plus calcium and magnesium

D deficiency has been mistaken for fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or peripheral neuropathy.

Infertility is associated with low vitamin D. Vitamin D supports production of oestrogen in men and women. PMS has been completely reversed by addition of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D.33 Menstrual migraine is associated with low levels of vitamin D and calcium.

Breast, prostate, skin and colon cancer have a strong association with low levels of D and lack of sunlight.

Activated vitamin D in the adrenal gland regulates tyrosine hydroxylase, the rate limiting enzyme necessary for the production of dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. Low D may contribute to chronic fatigue and depression.

High stress may increase the need for vitamin D or UV-B sunlight and calcium.

People with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s have been found to have lower levels of vitamin D.

Low levels of D, and perhaps calcium, in a pregnant mother and later in the child may be the contributing cause of “crooked teeth” and myopia. When these conditions are found in succeeding generations it means the genetics require higher levels of one or both nutrients to optimize health.

High stress may increase the need for vitamin D or UV-B sunlight and calcium.

Behaviour and learning disorders respond well to D and/or calcium combined with an adequate diet and trace minerals.

Helps those with Multiple Sclerosis: Multiple sclerosis has been known for many years to be more common at more northern latitudes. Clear molecular biology evidence is now available, which demonstrates why MS patients do worse with Vitamin D deficiency and how they improve with Vitamin D supplementation.

Research suggests that low levels of vitamin D may contribute to or be a cause of syndrome X with associated hypertension, obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

The battle of the bulge

Sunlight, UV-B, and vitamin D normalize food intake and normalize blood sugar. Weight normalization is associated with higher levels of vitamin D and adequate calcium. Typically, obese persons have impaired production of UV-B-stimulated D and impaired absorption of food source and supplemental D.

When the diet lacks calcium, whether from D or calcium deficiency, there is an increase in fatty acid synthase, an enzyme that converts calories into fat. Higher levels of calcium with adequate vitamin D inhibit fatty acid synthase while diets low in calcium increase fatty acid synthase by as much as five-fold. In one study, genetically obese rats lost 60 percent of their body fat in six weeks on a diet that had moderate calorie reduction but was high in calcium. All rats supplemented with calcium showed increased body temperature indicating a shift from calorie storage to calorie burning (thermogenesis).

Say no to margarine

Trans fatty acids, found in margarine and shortenings used in most commercial baked goods, should always be avoided. There is evidence that these fats can interfere with the enzyme systems the body uses to convert vitamin D in the liver.

Vitamin D Supplementation

Before embarking on Vitamin D supplementation, it is imperative that you have your blood levels checked by your doctor as well as your calcium levels. Supplementation is safe as long as sarcoidosis, liver or kidney disease is not present and the diet contains adequate calcium, magnesium and other minerals.

Adequate calcium and magnesium, as well as other minerals, are critical parts of vitamin D therapy. Without calcium and magnesium in sufficient quantities, vitamin-D supplementation will withdraw calcium from the bone and will allow the uptake of toxic minerals. Do not supplement vitamin D and do not sunbathe unless you are sure you have sufficient calcium and magnesium to meet your daily needs.

To avoid problems, anyone engaging in levels of vitamin-D supplementation above 1,000 iu daily should have periodic blood tests. Don’t forget to calculate your total vitamin-D intake from all sources—sunlight, food (including vitamin D in milk) and supplements, including cod liver oil.

What is BPA?

You may have heard a lot of hype recently about BPA in plastic products. Well, what is it? BPA (full name Bisphenol-A) is a chemical that mimics the female sex hormone estrogen.

It is used in many consumer products such as the lining in tin cans, water bottles, baby bottles and other plastics. It can leach from the plastics through heating (even leaving out in the sun), or wear and tear. It can also be found as a solvent in cosmetics and personal care products but are usually undisclosed on the product labels.

The effect of this chemical on the body is that it can disrupt hormones, impair reproductive organs, and have an adverse effect on tumors. Infants and fetuses are most at risk of this chemical (its mind boggling to think that baby bottles contain it).

The fact that this is one of the most produced chemicals in the world means traces of it are found in most people. Is this a contributing factor to the rapid decrease in fertility of men and women today?

Tips to protect yourself:

  • Drink from approved metal water bottles to limit chemical leaching (We have these for sale in the reception of the Life Health Centre).
  • Don’t microwave your food in plastic containers.
  • Buy baby bottles that label BPA free.
  • Use natural cosmetics and personal care products where possible (also available in the reception of the Life Health Centre).
  • And speak to one of Life Health Centre’s Naturopaths about detoxing options.

Weight off your mind

Weight   Off    Your   Mind

By  Jan  Duncan , Adv. Dip . Hypnosis , AMD

In  the  middle  of  winter , enjoying  all  those  hearty  meals  and  yummy  puddings , and  nice  hot  milky  drinks  to  ward  off  the  chill , the  last  thing  we  are  thinking  about  is  extra  weight . Soon , however , it  will  be  spring , and  while  a  young  man’s  fancy  might  turn  to  thoughts  of  love , the  fairer  sex  is  more  likely  to  be  worrying  where  to  put  the  avoir du  pois  when  it  is  time  to  wear  their  bathers .

When  it  comes  to  being  overweight , there  are  many  factors  to  take  into  account . Is  the  person  using  food  as  a  substitute  for  love  and  affection  that  is  missing  in  their  life ? Are  they  trying  to  become  unattractive  to  the  opposite  sex ? Could  it  just  be  the  ingrained  habit  of  cleaning  every  scrap  off  their  plate  “  because  of  the  starving  children  in  Africa  “  that  they  were  made  to  feel  guilty  over  as  a  child ?

For  many  of  us  whose  parents  experienced  times  of  hardship  and  deprivation , we  grew  up  with  the  “  waste  not  want  not  “  habit , even  though  in  these  modern  times  we  cannot  really  comprehend  what  they  endured .

Most  overweight  people  have  already  tried  many  of  the  weight  loss  regimes  that  are  constantly  in  women’s  magazines  or  the  TV . Expensive  supplements , rigidly  controlled  portions , bland  and  boring  shakes .

Sometimes  you  can  hit  on  a  plan  that  works  really  well  for  you , but  the  minute  that  you  deviate , all  your  hard  work  disappears  and  you  are  the  same  size  as  before , or  worse , even  heavier !

Hypnosis  can  be  a  very  effective  way  to  permanently  alter  the  way  you  view  food ,  leading  to  healthier  eating  habits  for  the  rest  of  your  life .

The  most  important  thing  to  ask  yourself  before  embarking  on  any  programme  is  ‘  Do  I  really  want to  lose  weight  ? ‘  If  the  answer  is  really  ‘  No “  then  it  doesn’t  matter  what  you  try  ,  you  will  always  find  a  way  for  it  to  fail .

If  ,  however , you  genuinely  do  want  to  shed  excess  weight , hypnosis  could  be  just  what  you  are  looking  for . It  is  not  a  ‘ magic bullet ‘  but  it  can  make  weight  loss  easy , and  permanent , by  changing  the  way  you  eat , how  much  you  want  to  eat , and  helping  you  to  prefer  the  sorts  of  foods  that  you  would  be  healthier  eating .

When  you  feel  hunger , what  in  fact  is  happening  is  that  a  tiny  sensor  at  the  base  of  the  brain , called  the  hypothalamus , is  sending  a  message  to  let  you  know  that  it  is  time  to  eat . About  twenty  minutes  after  it  has  told  you  that  you  need  to  eat , it  sends  another  message  telling  you  that  it  is  satisfied , and  the  hunger  feeling  subsides . Now  just  think  of  all  the  times  when  you  have  felt  hungry , but  have  not  been  able  to  eat , and  the  hunger  pangs  went  away .This  is  important  to  remember , because  now  you  can  realise  that  it’s  not  how  much  you  eat  during  that  twenty  minutes  that  satisfies  your  hunger . Your  hypothalamus  will  allow  you  to  eat  as  much  or  a  little  as  you  like  before  sending  the  exact  same  message !

Naturally  you  will  need  to make  better  choices  of  foods  to  eat , even  hypnosis  cannot  make  you  lose  weight  on  a  fast  food  diet , or  one  full  of  cool  drinks  , cakes , or  chocolate . Hypnosis  can  help  you  to  prefer  those  foods  that  are  healthy  and  beneficial  for  you ,  and  make  you  satisfied  with  smaller  portions  of  fresh  healthy  foods .

As  you  begin  to  lose  the  weight  that  has  been  with  you  for  so  long , you  will  feel  better  about  yourself , more  confident  and  energetic , no  longer  having  to  carry  around  that  excess  fat . As  you  feel  better , , you  will  become  more  determined  to  increase  that  feeling  of  control , more  motivated  to  become  that  person  who  has  the  body  that  you  want  and  deserve . This  does  not  mean  that  you  have  to  forgo  forever  those  foods  that  you  love , but  they  will  become  more  of  an  occasional  treat  than  a  daily  consolation , and  that  is  how  you  will  prefer  it .

Hand  in  glove  with  healthier  food  choices  goes  the  need  for  exercise – there  is  no  need  to  fear  becoming  a  crazed  gym  junkie , but  enjoying  a  little  moderate  sensible  exercise  will  naturally  become  a  part  of  your  day.

This  will  in  turn  boost  your  metabolism  to  speed  your   weight  loss  even  further .

Imagine  the  results  you’d  have  if  you  combined  hypnosis  with  a  personal  trainer   or  an  exercise  physiologist  who  can  tailor  a  regime  to  give  you  the  body  you  have  always  dreamed  of .

The  Subiaco  office  of  Change  Your  Mind , Change  Your  Life  Hypnosis  has  the  services  of  just  such  a  person !  Kati  Elliot  of  Maximise  Your  Metabolism  is  a  graduate  of  University  of  Leipzig  who  qualified  with  a  Bachelor  of  Physiology  and  Human  Movement .  With  a  simple, non  invasive  breathing  test , Kati  can  assess  your  metabolism  in  it’s  current  state  and  advise  the  changes  you  need  to  make  to  your  diet  and  exercise  habits  in  order  to  become  slim  and  healthy . Jan  and  Linda  are  both  highly  trained  hypnotists  who  can  clear  old  emotional  issues  that  may  be  contributing  to  your  weight  problems , and  then  give  your  motivation  a  boost  to  help  you  reach  your  weightloss  goals  easily  and  comfortably.

Maximum  gain  for  minimum  pain  !  Wether  you  have  a  specific  goal  in  mind , for  example  a  wedding  or  other  special  date , or  you   simply  want   to  lose  a  few  pounds  to  feel  more  comfortable  in  yourself  , we  can  help  you . There  are  as  many  reasons  for  losing  weight  as  there  are  for  gaining  it , and  the  goals  of  each  individual  will  be  motivated  differently . Let  hypnosis  make  it  easy  for  you .

HYPNOSIS  FACTS   AND  MYTHS

There  are  a  lot  of  myths  surrounding  hypnosis , from  the  old  chestnut  that  you  can  become  “  lost  in  trance  ‘   to  the  idea  that  somehow  all  your  deepest  secrets  will  somehow  come  out  without  your  knowing  it .

Hypnosis  is  not  like  biological  sleep , that  is , you  are awake  and perfectly  aware  of  everything  around  you  during  a  hypnotic  trance , but  you  are  focused  on  the  hypnotists  voice .

People  who  are  hypnotised  do  not   lose  control  of  themselves  and  are  quite  capable  of  saying  no  or  terminating  the  session  at  any  time . They  cannot  be  made  to  do  anything  that  conflicts  with  their  values  or  that  is  detrimental  to  themselves .

During  a  trance , unless  specifically  requested  by  the  person  to  be  hypnotised , there  is  actually  no  talking  on  their  part . Communication  is  done  by  finger  signals  indicating  simple  yes  or  no  answers , usually  regarding  depth  of  trance  and  willingness  to  accept  the  suggestions  agreed  upon  beforehand .

Hypnosis  cannot  enable  people  to  perform  impossible  feats  of  strength , endurance , learning  or  sensory  acuity , but  it  can  enable  people  to  achieve  their  maximum  potential  by  helping  them  to  focus on  their  goals  and  by  removing  psychological  barriers  to  success  that  usually  manifest  as  self  doubt  and  lack  of  confidence . Sometimes  the  only  barrier  to  achievement  is  belief  in  yourself , and  hypnosis  can  remove  the  self  defeating  programmes  that  prevent  you  from  reaching  whatever  heights  you  are  capable  of .

Hypnosis  can  enhance  medical  and  psychological  treatments . The  International  Journal  of  Clinical  and  Experimental  Hypnosis  found  that  hypnotic  suggestions  relieved  pain  in  75%  of  933  subjects  participating  in  27  different  experiments . The  pain  relieving  effect  of  hypnosis  is  often  substantial , and  in  some  cases  the  degree  of  relief  matches  …..that  of  morphene …and  can  boost  the  effectiveness  of  psychotherapy  for  some  conditions . Being happy in yourself

BEING  HAPPY  IN  YOURSELF

By  Jan  Duncan  Adv . Dip  Hypnosis , AMD , TFT

It  can  be  very  easy  to  fall  into  the  trap  of  expecting  more  and  more  of  ourselves  in  order  to  meet  society’s  criteria  for  success .

This  success  often  comes  at  a  hidden  cost . Working  longer  hours  sometimes  for  not  much  more  money  costs  precious  family  time .

The  trappings  of  success , nice  house , flash  car , the  latest  home  theatre , all  have  to  be  paid  for , and  with  the  cost  of  basic  foods  and  petrol  escalating , not  to  mention   rents  and  mortgages , we  find  ourselves  in  a  seemingly  endless  cycle  of  work , snatching  moments  with  family , sleeping  and  bill  paying .

It  is  no  wonder  that  there  is  a  huge  movement  of  people

‘  downsizing ‘ . Many  people  are  taking  a  good  look  at  what  they  have , what  they  want , and  what  they  can  let  go  of  to  get  it .

The  biggest  gain  for  most   people   who  do  choose  to  downsize  is  time . Time  to  be  with  their  children  and  partners . Time  to  spend  on  their  interests , just  being  themselves , with  no  deadlines , quotas , or  other  stresses .

If  you  are  beginning  to  have  thoughts  like ‘’  Is  this  all  there  is?  ‘’

then  perhaps  hypnosis  could  help  you  to  gain  some  clarity .

It  may  not  be  timely  for  you  to  quit  or  change  your  job , work  less  and  play  more , but  you  can  get  some  of  the  benefits  of  such  a  laid  back  lifestyle  by  an  occasional  session  of  hypnosis . Hypnosis  can  help  you  to  enjoy  your  life  more , to  cope  with  the  pressures  of  daily  living  until  you  are  ready  to  live  the  simple  life  for  real .

Being  happy  in  yourself  and  not  allowing  pressure  to  spoil  what  time  you  do  have  to  spare  will  make  life  much  more  enjoyable  for  you , and  for  the  ones  you  share  life  with .

If  you  change  your  mind , it  can  change  your  life .

Can hypnosis help me

Can   Hypnosis  Help  Me  ?

Most  people  associate  hypnosis  with  stage  hypnosis  and  have  heard  of  people  using  it  to  quit  smoking  and  reduce  their  weight .  However  the  applications  for  hypnosis  are  endless  and  also  include ;

confidence  boosting / self  esteem ; stress / anxiety / panic  attacks / PTSD ; insomnia – sleep  onset , duration  and  quality ; depression / mood  swings / grief ; pain  control  and  management ; fears  and  phobias ; nail biting / nerves ; sports  performance ; asthma / breathing  problems ; erectile  dysfunction/ male  and  female  sexual  issues ; jealousy , anger , envy , guilt ; rebuilding  relationships ; increasing  motivation  /removing  procrastination ; examination  jitters / good  study  habits ; stuttering / voice  clarity  and  projection / public  speaking ; optimizing  immune  function ; regression / releasing  the  past ,and  many  other  issues .

Hypnosis  is  being  used  increasingly  in  the  workplace  to  create  a smoke – free  environment  and  to  reduce  and manage  stress , to  increase  salesmanship  confidence  and  for  effective  team  building .

Hypnosis  is  extremely  effective  in  treating  a  wide  variety  of  problems , frequently  providing  relief  when  other  means  have  failed .

Hypnosis  has  been  accepted  by  mainstream  medical  institutions  which  reflects  its  effectiveness  as  a  form  of  allied  therapy .  Officially   recognized  by  the  American  Medical  Association  in  1958

And  given  the  support  of  the  US  National  Institute  of  Health           ( NIH )  for  cancer  pain  and  other  pain  conditions , there’s  little  doubt  about  it’s  enormous  contribution  to  healthcare .

Research  from  Harvard  Medical  School  and  other  institutions  demonstrate  that  hypnosis  is  a  process  of  mind  over  body  where  physiological  changes  occur  which  activate  certain  parts  of  the  brain, including  that  portion  which  is  responsible  for  focused  attention . Guided  by  the  therapists  words , you  drift  into  a  very  deeply  relaxed  yet  very  focused    state  where  your  conscious  mind   ‘  steps  aside ‘ allowing  the  subconscious  mind  to  accept  positive  and  helpful  suggestions .

Hypnosis  greatly  improves  your  well-being , corrects  unwanted  behaviours   and  habits , and  clears  blockages . It’s  easy –

Hypnotherapy for depression in men

DEPRESSION  IN  MEN

THE  HIDDEN  EPIDEMIC

Jan  Duncan  AMD , Adv. Dip  Hypnosis

There  is  much  more  in  the  news  these  days  about  men’s  depression  and  that  can  only  be  a  good  thing . With  encouragement , and  with  people  like  the  former  Premier  being  open  about  his  own  struggle  with  this  debilitating  problem , perhaps  more  men  will  decide  that  it  is  ok  to  seek  help .

It  is  not  surprising  that  many  men  are  finding  it  hard  to  cope  in  this  day  and  age . So  many  of  the  accepted  strictures  of  our  society  have  changed  or  been  abandoned , that  many  men  feel  out  of  their  depth , not  really  knowing  what  their  role  is  or  how  to  react  in  situations  that  previously  rarely  existed .

Today’s  workplace  is  vastly  different  from  that  of  years  gone  by , when  your  first  job  would  often  see  you  to  retirement . These  days  it  is  such  a  competitive  market  with  deadlines  and  upskilling  , not  to  mention  the  dreaded  ‘ bottom  line ‘  that  sees  many  good  employees  out  of  work  to  increase  profitability . The  story  of  the  chap  who  still  takes  his  lunch , and  his  briefcase , and  spends  his  day  in  the  park  because  he  is  too  ashamed  to  tell  his  wife  he  is  redundant  is  sadly  not  so  far  fetched .

Then  there  are  the  male / female  dynamics  of  modern  life  to  contend  with . The  time  when  the  little  woman  stayed  at  home  to  be  cherished  and  provided  for  is  long  gone . Indeed , many  men  find  themselves  at  home  and  their  wives  the  main  breadwinner . While  some  men  may  relish  this  role  reversal , for  some  it  is  anything  but  a  happy  change   and  can  lead  to  feelings  of  uselessness  and  frustration .

What  is  or  is  not  politically  correct  in  relationships  seems  to  be  changing  every  five  minutes , and  lots  of  single  men  think  it’s  all  too  hard , and  opt  for  other  pursuits  than  dating , which  can  lead  to  loneliness  later  in  life .

Then  there  are  the  family  men   for  whom  life  has  become  a  struggle  to  service  the  spiralling  costs  of  bringing  up  and  educating  children . It  is  hard  enough  when  all  the  children  are  healthy , but  what  about  the  difficulties  you  face  when  one  or  more  of  your  children  are  special  needs  kids ,  or  have  a  serious  or   life  threatening  condition  that  requires  constant  care   , sometimes  at  the  expense  of  everyone  else  in  the  family .

It  is  still    not  acceptable  to  show  feelings  of  rage  or  frustration  ,  or  fear  and  grief , to  many  men . They  try  to  soldier  on  even  when  their  burdens  could  make  a  stone  cry . Many  deal  with  their  problems  by  drowning  them  in  alcohol , or  squashing  them  down  with  food ,  or  by  plain  denial .

Hypnosis  can  be  very  beneficial  for  depression , and  men  seem  to  like  the  fact  that  they  don’t  have  to  pour  their  hearts  out  to  a  therapist  in  order  to  effect  change . Hypnosis  can  act  as  a  pressure  valve  for  the  subconscious  mind , allowing  a  safe  release  of  pent  up  feelings ,  so  that  a  calmer  and  more  optimistic  state  of  mind  is  achieved .

Whatever  the  reason  for  depression , whether  or  not  it  seems  to  be  a  minor  or  a  major  thing , it  is  nevertheless  a  very  real  and  debilitating  condition . Statistics  prove  that  when  treated  it  can  be  overcome , but  if  left ,  can  persist  and  even  worsen  over  time .

Hypnosis  is  a  gentle , non-invasive  drug  free  alternative  that  can  leave  you  feeling  more  positive , more  able  to  cope , and  more  in  control  of  your  life .
